Song of the day "Hamara Naam Banarasi Babu"*

Let’s start Sunday with one of my favourite, Shankar Mukherjee’s 1973 drama film *”Banarsi Babu”* directed by Shankar Mukherjee. 

The film starred Dev Anand, Rakhee and Yogita Bali. They were supported by I S Johar, Jeevan, Veena, Manorama, Bhagwan and Faryal. 

The movie was a hit on its release.

Only time Dev Anand and Yogita Bali worked in a film.

Khaike Paan Banaraswala from Don 1978 was composed for this film.But couldn't make it due to Dev Anand, s refusal to shoot this song as he thought the song would not suit his character.

Dev Anand's character in dual role is named Mohan and Sohan.In Johnny Mera Naam 1970 Dev Anand and Pran play brothers and were also named Mohan and Sohan.

The movie as well as this song from the movie lies forgotten today, but this song from “Banarasi Babu”  was quite popular those days.

This song in fact is the title song of the as well as the introduction song of the hero. Dev saab the hero announces by this song that he is Banarasi Babu. It was a popular song in my Antakshari list. 

 This song may not have gone on to become as popular as some other introduction songs, but it was quite a rage with impressionable kids like me at that time. The fact that Kishore Kumar sang this song meant that this song had to be on the lips of everyone. Kishore Kumar the reigning male playback singer those days could do no wrong. Whatever song he sang tended to become popular. I recall listening to this song a lot in Radio.

Anjaan wrote this song and Kalyanji Anandji composed the music.
