Song of the Day.." Ek Tara Bole”

Let’s start the day with paying tribute to *Harikrishan Giri Goswami aka (Manoj Kumar 24 July 1937 – 4 April 2025) who died yesterday. He was an actor, film director, screenwriter, lyricist and editor. He was one of the most successful and finest actors in the history of Indian cinema. He was known for acting and making films with Patriotism and he was given the nickname *Bharat Kumar.*

He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1992 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award; highest award in the field of cinema in 2015 by the Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema and arts. He was also the recipient of a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards, in varied categories.

Today’s song is from S Ram Sharma’s 1970 film *”Yaadgaar”* directed by S Ram Sharma.

The film starred Manoj Kumar. Nutan, Kamini Kaushal, Madan Puri, Prem Chopra, Kuljeet, Manmohan, Shammi and Pran.

This film has some memorable songs: Ek Tara Bole, Jis Path pe Chala and “Wo Khet Mein Milega” - this particular song has a personal history. I was all of 4 years old and singing this song in our car travelling from Delhi to Bombay, when our car overturned at Shivpuri (M P) near the Chambal ravines. With gods grace 🙏🏻 all my family members travelling survived without any major injuries to us but our Dodge car was totalled. The impact was such that I feared singing this song again. 🙄

There was a major goof in one of the scenes of the film:
Madan Singh fires at Bhanu. When Rana Shamsher Singh comes to visit Bhanu in the hospital, Bhanu's left arm is shown as injured and had bandage. In the next frame when Madan Singh comes to deliver flowers, Bhanu's right arm had bandage and continued right until the end.

Manoj Kumar was able to get Amitabh Bachchan a small supporting role in the film. But by then Amitabh had already left back to Delhi after being rejected by several producers. Kuljeet eventually signed the role.

Manoj Kumar was a movie maker who would make movies with simplistic messages, which concentrated on the sanskars given to the kids. He showed that Bharat was good, west was bad ( Purab aur paschim), Villagers were good, city folks were bad ( Upkaar ) etc. In this connection, here is this movie “Yaadgaar” where Manoj Kumar continues this theme.

Since yesterday many popular songs are being posted in Manoj Kumar’s honour. I chose this particular song as I used to like the song as a child and it’s almost forgotten today. Do listen and enjoy the song.

This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and picturised on Nutan and Manoj Kumar and his devotees, all wearing saffron clothes. The song was written by Verma Malik and music direction was by Kalyanji Anandji.

*”Ek Tara Bole”* lyrics by Verma Malik, composed by Kalyanji Anandji  and sung beautifully by Mahendra Kapoor 🎤🎵🎶🎧
