Song of the Day

Let’s start the day and week with L V Prasad’s 1959 family drama film *”Chhoti Behan”* directed by L V Prasad.

The film starred Balraj Sahni, Nanda, Shyama, Rehman, Dhumal, Shubha Khote, Veena, Mehmood.

Chhoti Bahen is the story about the delicate but powerful bond of love. Rajendra and Shekhar lose their parents, and the all they have is each other, and their younger sister Meena. Though in love, Rajendra swears that he will not marry till his younger brother and sister are settled. Shekhar falls in love with a rich girl Shobha. Meanwhile, Meena's marriage is fixed. Misfortune strikes when Meena meets with an accident and is blinded forever. Shekhar, pressed on by an impatient Shobha, marries her and they go away to live with her rich father. Rajendra loses his job. To support his poor blind sister, he is desperate for a job

Today’s song is a duet which is sung by Subir Sen and Lata. Subir Sen, like Dwijen Mukherji sang in the same style as Hemant Kumar and if one was not aware, it is easy to mistake the voice for Hemant Kumar’s voice.

This song was picturised on Mehmood and Shubha Khote. It was perhaps the fist occasion for the two of them to be paired together in a movie. their pairing obviously went down well with the audience and they were paired together for several movies subsequently where they would often form the CSP (Comic side plot) of the story line.

Shailendra is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

*”Main Rangeela Pyar Ka Rahi “* lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri, composed Shanker Jaikishan and sung by Lata Mangeshkar & Subir Sen 🎤🎵🎶🎧
