Film Shor .. Review

Let’s start the day and month with Manoj Kumar & Shashi Goswami’s 1972 film *”Shor”* edited, written and directed by Manoj Kumar.

The film starred Manoj Kumar, Jaya Badhuri and Nanda (Special Appearance). They were supported by Kamini Kaushal, Asrani, Manorama, Master Satyajeet, Raj Mehra and Premnath.

The idea to make SHOR came to Manoj Kumar while he was relaxing at his farmhouse in Delhi, after completing PURAB AUR PASCHIM. A few friends commented on how peaceful it was and that there was no ' shor' in the vicinity.

Jaya Bachchan clashed with Manoj Kumar while the film was being made. She called him a bully and said his "bharat" image was all a show. She mentioned his attitude was very arrogant and was upset he did not call her for any trial showings. Manoj stated after he saw Guddi, he wrote Shor with Jaya in mind. He did not invite Jaya for the trial showings because the trail showings were held with the purpose of editing the film. The film was not completed at that point.

A dejected Amitabh used to be a regular visitor on the sets of Shor. He was dating Jaya at the time and did not have much work. Manoj Kumar befriended him, saw a certain spark and knew he had potential. He signed him up for a supporting role in his next film Roti Kapda Makaan. Amitabh had risen to be a top hero by the time Roti Kapda aur Makaan released.

Manoj stated that the film had nothing to do with any problem in India. That is why his character was named Shankar and not Bharat. He did not want to misuse the name "Bharat".

“Shor” (1972) is a Manoj Kumar movie which may not be in the same league as Upkar, Purab Aur Pachim, but this movie too had a very inspirational song in it.

Politicians undertake hunger strikes for their causes, but here Bharat Kumar hits upon an idea far more innovative. He decides to ride a bicyle for a fortnight, without taking any rest.

A sportsfield in the venue of this bicycling. This song gets sung while Manoj Kumar pedals on and on.

Those days this was a fad in real life too, men cycling for 48 or 72 hours to collect money for certain causes like medical procedures or educational donations.

*”Jeevan Chalne Ka Naam”* lyrics by Rajkavi Inderjeet Singh Tulsi, composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and sung by Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor & Shyama Chittar 🎤🎶🎵🎧
