Let’s start the day and week and New Happy and Healthy beginnings with wishing one and all *”Nutan Varsh Ki Shubh Kamaayein ππ» Shubh Samvat 2080”* with Sashadhar Mukherjee’s 1960 patriotic film *”Hum Hindustani”* directed by Ram Mukherjee.
The film starred Sunil Dutt, Asha Parekh & Joy Mukherjee. They were supported by Prem Chopra, Helen, Gajanan Jagirdar, Leela Chitnis, Agha and Sanjeev Kumar.
Sanjeev kumar debuted in this film.
Directional debut of Ram Mukherjee.
The film is a remake of the 1952 Bengali movie Basu Paribar.
This is Asha Parekh's second film as heroine, but her first film in color. Heavy lighting was required for the indoor shots, and the lights were so strong that they burned Asha's arm. The technicians rushed in a first-aid kit and used it on her.
This is the first of five films that Sunil Dutt and Asha Parekh were paired together. They enjoyed working together, except that Dutt would get shy doing love scenes, since Parekh's mother Sudha Parekh was on the set.
Helen said in an interview that she wasn't offered character roles after this film, until later in career and was typecast as a dancer.
*"Chhodo kal Ki Baatein, Kal Ki Baat Puraani"* lyrics by Prem Dhawan, composed by Usha Khanna and sung brilliantly by Mukesh π€πΆπ΅π§
