Sharabhi”* 1964

Sharing the review of the Bollywood film sharabi 1964.Its story screenplay is  directed by Raj Rishi.

The film starred Dev Anand and Madhubala with Daisy Irani, Sulochana  and Lalita Pawar.

Most of the shooting of Sharabi was completed in 1958, and it was slated to release in late 1958. Madhubala fell sick during the filming and thus the shooting came to a halt. Following temporary recovery, she went to London along with her husband Kishore Kumar for her treatment, the film still incomplete. She finished her work in Sharabi in early 1964.

For Madhubala, although the film released five years before her death, it was her final release in her lifetime

Some part of Sharabi film shooted at bhowra colliery JHARIA dhanbad in the shop of Kedarnath Pannalal Aabhushan shop.

What a nice movie.Great one. Dev Anand, Madhubala and Lalita Pawar and even junior artists performed a great job. Bollywood today lacks such kind of movies but this stunning movie, made about 52 years before fits into scenario of a drunkard, his habits, his absence of will power and his gestures all were greatly presented. Family situations of a drunkard in India their relations, their friends circle and his love interest all were presented greatly with fine observation. I watched the movie during my preparation leave for college examinations when my friends watched "befikre" and prepared for "dangal". But it is sad to see that people had many reviews on Websites but doesn't review on proper stage.Dev Anand performed a step ahead of his prodigy in this movie. In depiction of Keshav, his pleasures, his pains are greatly expressed by the great man. His prestige, his will, his situation means nothing, even to his close buddies. Fake accuse of forgery (often frequent in India now a days too) and struggle are the part of Keshav's life. Madhubala also performed brilliantly in whole of movie . No essence of glamour or greatness comes from her nor from any other character. All characters are common people (but you would not find such beauties like of her and Dev frequent or hardly near by) depicting the local, the towns of India missing from today's movies. Every actors specialized in depicting character's grief and pain, happiness and persona. There are a few faults in movie, but are very minute. Music again proved the worth of movies of golden era, specially the one "Sawan Ke Mahine Mein" lets you to sing even if you do not enjoy or even hate alcoholism. The talent of Dev Anand and Madhubala in song presentation is clearly visible. Lalita Pawar in depiction of mother of a sharabi, was quite excellent. Neither actor overacted in whole movie (although it being an entertainer). Comedy is in the movie but doesn't seems to be fitted unnecessarily. It was same as in our daily lives, the whole movie was great as to say in one sentence. It is quite buried in dark shadow of time but can be looked like silhouette . Sad enough to know people of my generation does not knew or watch films like this. It is a gem
