“Amar Prem” was full of memorable songs that are remembered to this date.
The soundtrack was melody based, which gave Lata Mangeshkar her finest classical solo of the decade, Raina Beti Jaaye, set in an unusual blend of two Ragas, Todi in mukhara or the opening verse and Khamaj in the antara. Burman had heard his father, music composer S. D. Burman sing, Bela Boye Jaye, which he said was on his mind, while composing the song. Bakshi's lyrics, created a Meera bhajan-like idiom for the song, employing the Krishna-Radha motif.
RD Burman would go into his room and work from 9 o'clock in the morning till 9 o'clock in the night for Amar Prem.
I thought this song must have been written by Gulzar, consideing that he has written some nice songs with the word “raina” (night) in them. But here it is Anand Bakshi who has written this song and he has in fact wrote a very fine song playing with the words “Shaam” (evening) and “Shyaam”(Lord Krishna). Lata has sung this song beautifully.
Raina Beeti Jaye.Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma played the Iranian Santoor and Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia played the flute in this song.
Raina Beeti Jaye.Music director Madan Mohan had apparently called S.D. Burman to congratulate him for composing this song. The senior Burman had to convince him that the song was actually composed by his son R.D. Burman.
Today’s song from the movie was sung by Lata and picturised on Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. Anand Bakshi was the lyricist and R D Burman composed the music.
Romanian singer Narghita sang the cover version of Raina Beeti Jae (Noaptea Trece).
*"Raina Beeti Jaye (Raga Todi)"* lyrics by Anand Bakshi, composed by R. D. Burman and sung superbly by Lata Mangeshkar 🎤🎶🎵🎧
