Laawaris”* Review

Let’s start the day with Prakash Mehra’s 1981 Masala film *” Laawaris”* directed by Prakash Mehra. 

The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman. They were supported by Ranjeet, Bindu, Amjad Khan, Suresh Oberoi, Padmini Kapila, Om Prakash, Satyen Kappu, Ram Sethi, Jeevan, Shreeram Lagoo, Preeti Sapru, Goga Kapoor and Rakhee in a guest appearance. 

Laawaris was remade as
Naa Desam, in Telugu in 1982, starring N. T. Rama Rao, Kaikala Satyanarayana and Jayasudha.

Panakkaran, in Tamil in 1990, starring Rajinikanth, Vijayakumar and Gautami. 

Director Prakash Mehra had based the film on himself. Despite having a father, he always looked at himself as an orphan.

Prakash Mehra ridiculed Manmohan Desai's lost and found formula in films. Manmohan once responded that if he hated the formula so much why he used that story line in Laawaris.

Lawaaris was the last successful film of the combination of Kalyanji-Anandji and Prakesj Mehra.

Today’s song is a reunion song. Two persons, who last met as children meet each other again as grown up, and in Bollywood movie style, finding themselves in love with each other. I too would live to meet girls with whom I studied in class I when we were about six years old. Meeting them again some 40 years later is going to be a sentimental experience, I am sure. Even otherwise, it would be a great reunion.

The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman. Anjaan is the lyricist and Kalyanji Anandji composed the music.
