Song of the Day

Let’s start the day with Shakti Samanta’s 1962 romantic comedy film *”Naughty Boy “* directed y Shakti Samanta.

The film starred Kishore Kumar and Kalpana. They were supported by Bhattacharya, Laxmi Chhaya, Tina Katkar, Krishnakant, Madan Puri and Om Prakash.

Shakti Samanta stated "After Insan Jaag Utha I had decided to make a film on a coal mine, Barood with Madhubala. Kishore Kumar who was in love with Madhubala then insisted he wanted to do the film with her. I pointed out that the subject wouldn't suit him. "So make another film that I can fit into?" he retorted. "Madhu is not well, she'll not be able to shoot in a coal mine anyway." Kishore was very persuasive. I shelved Barood and launched Naughty Boy, a comedy, with the pair. I was still a loser because after about 10-11 reels had been shot, Madhubala took to bed. The doctors wouldn't allow her to complete the film. She was too ill. I had to re-shoot the entire film with Kishore and Kalpana. In the process it got delayed".

This film is an absolute riot. I will even go so far as to say it is one of the best Hindi comedies I have seen, especially considering it is not particularly well-known at all. The story is not particularly great but the scenes are really cute, the chemistry between Kishore and Kalpana is awesome (they were together also in the lovely Pyar Kiye Ja – remember the song “din jawani ke chaar yaar”?) and everything about it is so feel-good that you’ve got just love it. I would highly recommend it to anybody.

This film has awesome songs too. SD Burman’s compositions – and each one is just so much fun. RD had a role to play as well as an assistant music director.

Here is “sa sa sa sa re” from the film. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

*"Sa Sa Sa Sa Re"* lyrics by Shailendra, composed by S D Burman and sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle 🎤🎵🎶🎧
