Song of The Day

Let’s start the day with Raj Kapoor’s 1973 young musical romance film *”Bobby”* directed by Raj Kapoor.

The film starred Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. They were supported by  Premnath, Prem Chopra, Durga Khote, Sonia Sahani, Aruna Irani, Farida Jalal, Pinchoo Kapoor, Jagdish Raj and Pran.

Thematically and stylistically inspired by the Archie comics Raj Kapoor was fond of, the film became a trend-setter.

The movie transformed debutants Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia into stars.

Raj Kapoor wanted a new romantic lead to debut with his son Rishi. Neetu Singh, who had previously worked as a child in supporting roles, auditioned. Although she did not get this part, she did debut as a leading lady the same year opposite Rishi's brother Randhir Kapoor in Rickshawala (1973). She later became Rishi's frequent co-star and the pair eventually married in 1980.

Some scenes were shot in Gulmarg. One scene was shot in a hut in Gulmarg, which became famous as the 'Bobby Hut'.

A few scenes towards the end of the movie were shot on Pune-Solapur highway near Loni Kalbhor where Raj Kapoor owned a farm.

Rishi Kapoor joined a weight loss clinic prior to starting the film. It was at the clinic he met his first love, a Parsi girl named Yasmin. She was his trainer. They ended up breaking up after the film released and Rishi became a star.

Metro cinema Dhobitalao in Mumbai known for screening English films started screening Hindi films with Bobby.

Iconic Chandan cinema of Juhu opened with this film which was inaugurated by Raj Kapoor himself.

Shanker-Jaikishan were his regular music composers and Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra wrote the songs. But it suprised everyone by taking Laxmikant-Pyarelal as music composers for Bobby and Anand Bakshi and Vithalbhai Patel as the song writers.

Lata Mangeshkar resumed to sing for Raj Kapoor in Bobby. Before she didn't sing for Mera Naam Joker & Kal Aaj Aur Kal. Then she sang for all remaing films of Raj Kapoor like Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Prem Rog & Ram Teri Ganga Maili.

*”Ae Ae Ae Phansa”* lyrics by Anand Bakshi, composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and sung by Lata Mangeshkar 🎤🎵🎶🎧
