*"Jidhar Dekhoon Teri Tasveer....Sing Review
Let’s start the day and week with Satyanarayana & A. Suryanarayana’s 1983 thriller action film *”Mahaan”* directed by S. Ramanathan.
The film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Amitabh Bachchan & Praveen Babi. They were supported by Ashok Kumar, Amjad Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Sujit Kumar, Mukri, Iftekhar and Kader Khan.
This movie is a remake of hit Kannada movie "Shankar Guru" starring Dr. Rajkumar.
The makers of this film first had approached Jeetendra to play the triple role in this film, as Jeetendra was acting in many South films at that time, but he was very busy with other South films he told the makers to take Amitabh Bachchan for this film and Jeetendra called Amitabh Bachchan to request him to do Mahaan.
Amitabh Bachchan plays triple role which remains his only triple role till date.
Raakhee Gulzar had been offered the role opposite the senior Bachchan role. When she found out that Hema and Zeenat, both her contemporaries, were acting opposite the two junior Bachchan roles, she backed out and another Amitabh favorite - Waheeda accepted the role. Hema then opted out due to her pregnancy and Parveen replaced her.
S.Ramanathan in year 1970s had directed Amitabh Bachchan first successful movie Bombay To Goa, with Aruna Irani as the heroine, then he did Mahaan and he directed Amitabh Bachchan in Zamanat.
This is a wonderful sentimental song which appears in the movie twice and it is sung by different singers on both the occasions.
The first, happy version of the song is sung by Kishore. The second, somre and poignant version is sung by Amitabh Bachchan.
Both these versions are picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman. In the fist version, they are together and happy and looking forward to a bright and prosperous future. In the second version, they are separated and have not met her for ages. This version of song is in fact sung on phone. Amitabh Bachchan sings this song to Waheeda Rehman on phone.
The tune at 0:26 from Jidhar Dekhoon Tere Tasveer from Mahaan, is same as the tune at 0:53 from the song Tere Wado Pe Karke from Karishma Kudrat Kaa.
The song is written by Anjaan and music is composed by R D Burman.
This song is from 1983, and by that time the golden era of Hindi movie songs was fast coming to an end. R D Burman and a few others were the last Moghul of the golden era and they wer trying to keep the flag of the great tradition of Hindi movie songs alive.
