Baazi.. Film n Song Review
Let’s start Sunday with one of my favourite Dev Anand’s 1951 drama film *”Baazi”* directed by Guru Dutt.
The film starred Dev Anand, Geeta Bali and Kalpana Kartik. They were supported by Roopa Verma, Krishan Dhawan, Rashid Khan, Johnny Walker, Nirmal Kumar and K. N. Singh.
Directional debut of Guru Dutt.
Only film where Balraj Sahani worked as a writer and also did the screenplay.
Debut of Kalpana Kartik who was spotted by Chetan Anand when she was crowned Miss Shimla.
Film is tribute to 40s Hollywood Thriller and inspired from Gilda 1946.
Today’s song must be one of the very first songs of its genre namely a party/ club song, where a lady sings in a bar/ club to entertain the customers, and one of the customers is the hero.
And this song is quite a well known song. In fact it has gone on to become a timeless classic. It is sung by Geeta Dutt and picturised on Geeta Bali. Geeta Dutt singing for Geeta Bali to me are much like the songs of Rafi singing for Shammi Kapoor- all these songs are sung with gusto and the picturisation too shows involvement and commitment by the actor.
This immortal song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi. The music is by S D Burman. It is difficult to imagine that such a wonderful music was composed nearly 58 yeras ago and it sounds as fresh today as it did all those decades ago.
The song is sung wondefully and it is picturised nicely on Geeta Bali and Dev Anand. And who is the barman ? He appears quite a familiar character from the movies of those days.
The song "Tadbeer" was remixed in the film Bluffmaster.
*"Tadbeer Se Bigdi Hui Taqdeer Bana Le"* lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi, composed by S.D. Burman and sung with masti by Geeta Dutt 🎤🎵🎶🎧
