अभिमान फिल्म Song Review

Let’s start the day with Susheela Kamat & Pawan Kumar Jain’s 1973  musical drama film -*”Abhimaan”*  directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri. They were supported by Asrani, David, Durga Khote, A K Hangal, Lalita Kumari and Bindu.

Originally the film was titled "Raag Ragini".

This film was produced by Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri's production company, Amiya, whose name was derived from the two actors' names. However, they were not credited as the film's producers. Pawan Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan's secretary, and Sushila Kamat, the film's Chief Assistant Director, were credited as the film's producers.

The film was loosely based on the 1970 Bengali Film Bilambita Loy starring Uttam Kumar and Supriya Devi.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee stated "Contrary to what people think, Abhimaan was not made with Jaya and Amitabh in mind. Innumerable people, both inside and outside the film industry, keep asking me if I had made this film as a guideline or warning to their marriage. My answer is an emphatic 'NO'. When I first thought of the film I didn't even know Amitabh and Jaya. The story of Abhimaan was written some time In 1955, inspired by the marriage of a family friend. About a couple who were professional singers. Their marriage was heading for the rocks. Yes, Abhimaan is their real story! But there's a difference. In the real story, ego did not play as important a part as it did in my film. I added the ego bit for drama. As it turned out, it could be the story of any couple pursuing the same profession."

Hrishikesh Mukherjee said that the film was inspired from life of breaking relationship between Kishore Kumar and his wife Ruma Guha Thakurta.

Jaya Bhaduri was a top heroine when the movie was started. By the time it released Amitabh had become the bigger star. Real life role reversal of what the movie showed.

This was a movie where the music was the biggest star than even the two lead actors. The songs were just out of this world. I grew up listening to the stunning songs of this movie.

Here is one of the memorable songs from this movie. This song , which is sung by Lata is actually picturised to show the careers of Amitabh and Jaya. Jaya is at the pinnacle of her career, and Amitabh, her husband, gets a complex because of that. The picturisation of this song beautifully depicts the feelings of amitabh Bachchan in this song. Jaya’s dilemma, where she has to strike a balance between her career aspirations and her personal life, is depicted beautifully in the picturisation.

The song is in fact a creation of genius. It is sung wonderfully by Lata. Majrooh Sultanpuri has come up with simple, yet highly effective lyrics. S D Burman’s music weaved the magic of its music on me then, and I continue to find myself spellbound, everytime the music of this song begins, heralding the beginning to this song.

The Go! Team song "Yosemite Theme" sampled the song "Ab to Hai Tumse Har Khushi Apni".

*"Ab To Hai Tumse Har Khushi Apni"* lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri, composed by S D Burman and sung superbly by Lata Mangeshkar 🎤🎶🎵🎧
