Melukote Temple
Melukote in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district, Karnataka, in southern India, is one of the sacred places in Karnataka.It is built on rocky hills, known as Yadugiri, Yaadavagiri or Yadushaila, overlooking the Cauvery valley. Melukote is about 51 km (32 miles) from Mysore and 133 km (83 mi) from Bangalore.
Sharing some info about an amazing pillar at the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple at Melukote, Karnataka.
It features an octagonal shaped ring at the center. There are vertical joints that hold it place. No part of the ring itself, touches the pillar.
This special pillar depicts various scenes from the Ramayana. Seen are Rama, Sita & Lakshmana. Below that are Rama & Lakshmana in the battlefield at Lanka.
Carvings of what appears to be Sugreeva, Angada & Lord Hanuman are also seen.
On the same pillar, a scene depicting the slaying of Ravana. Above it is carvings of what appears to be Vibishana, Sita, Rama & Lakshmana post war.
From the same pillar, carving of the great devotee Shabari offering fruits to Rama & Lakshmana, who are in pursuit of the abducted Sita.
