An emotional and powerful photo of a one-legged Syrian father holding his son born without lower or upper limbs has been awarded the Best Picture of the Year 2021 award at the Siena International Awards.


The Turkish photographer, Mehmet Aslan, won the award for the overall winner of the competition through his photo, titled “The Hardship of Life”. The picture was taken in the Reyhanli area of ​​the Turkish province of Hatay on the border with Syria.


The moment captured by Aslan depicts a father who lost one of his legs while carrying his son, who was born without limbs due to a congenital disorder caused by medications his mother had to take.
