Derinkuyu, Turkey's underground city,
Although the underground complex of Derinkuyu, located in Turkish Cappadocia, gained popularity in the seventies, when Swiss researcher and author Erich Von Däniken discovered it to the world through "The Gold of the Gods", Derinkuyu had long raised questions especially among archaeologists in his country.
She was accidentally discovered when a man knocked down her basement wall. Upon arrival, archaeologists revealed the city was 18 stories deep and everything underground life needed, including schools, chapels and even stables.
Derinkuyu, Turkey's underground city, is nearly 3,000 years old, and it came to host 20,000 people.”
