Superhit film Daag 1973

Yash Chopra produced and directed 1973 super hit romantic drama film, Daag: A Poem of Love. Story by Gulshan Nanda.

The film starred Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee. They were supported by Achala Sachdev, A K Hangal, Iftekhar, Jagdish Raj, Manmohan Krishan, Madan Puri, Kader Khan, Master Raju, Baby Pinky and Prem Chopra.

The only movie co-starring the two Bengali tigresses Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee Gulzar.

This was the first film produced by Yash Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films. His friend and financier, Gulshan Rai, warned him about a lukewarm box-office response and released the film in a low profile manner. Within six days of the film's release, the no. of prints had to be tripled.

Dilip Kumar who played lead in 1952 film Daag gave the film's Muhurat clap.

Rajesh Khanna's second film with Yash Chopra after the acclaimed Ittefaq, and his first film under the YRF banner. Years later he worked in VIJAY, his last film under the banner opposite Hema Malini.

The only film of Yash Chopra with Kadar Khan.

One of the last movies Raakhee acted in before her marriage to Gulzar. She looked ethereal clad in lovely chiffon sarees - making her the forerunner of the Yash Chopra's fixation with the 'Chandni' look in all his future romantic movies. She had no romantic scenes with Rajesh Khanna though she did play the third angle of the love triangle. Despite having no songs and a shorter role than Sharmila - she had 3-4 strong scenes where she proved her mettle and came out a winner

Yash Chopra had conceived the role of Chandni with Raakhee in mind. Though shorter in length than Sharmila's role, it was author-backed. Raakhee had no romantic songs with Khanna either. All the songs belonged to Sharmila. Raakhee was nominated in the best supporting actress category at Filmfare for her role.
